Síla graduated from the National
College of Art and Design, Dublin, in the
mid 80s and travelled extensively
before finally settling down to operate
a full time Jewellery Design Studio from
her home town of Roundstone.
(More about Roundstone)
Located in the ruins of the old Franciscan
Monastery, Síla draws her inspiration
from the strong monastic presence and the
rugged aesthetic landscape of Connemara.
She carries on this traditional craft using
highly defined mystic symbols associated
with Celtic art of the monastic and pre-Christian
period. These designs reflect the Celtic
belief in the continuous cycle of life and
immortality, that is - birth, death and
rebirth. The knotwork and spiral designs
are manifested in many great Celtic works
of art such as the Book of Kells and the
Ardagh Chalice amongst others. Síla brings
to life these ancient mystic symbols within
her timeless jewellery.
Síla Mag Aoíde has exhibited
internationally in leading trade shows at
the Showcase Dublin, N.E.C. Birmingham,
Top Drawer London and the Edinburgh Crafts
Fare in Scotland. As designer and manufacturer
of exclusive handcrafted Celtic and contemporary
jewellery, Sílas workshop offers a
wide spectrum of services to the public
including mail-order, corporate sector,
